Who We Are

Liz Laird, Founder

Originally from Texas, Liz’s childhood memories are full of travels across the United States (Boston! New York! San Francisco! Alaska!), as well as international trips starting in middle school. Liz has previously lived abroad in England and India and then settled in that strange and foreign land of Washington, DC, where she also happened to meet and marry her husband. Now a mom of three, Liz is passionate about sharing her love of travel and history with her children as well as helping other families feel encouraged and supported to take adventures across the globe and around the corner. Liz’s family tries to make a trip to Acadia National Park at least once a year and she will most likely try to convince you to travel to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland or the fjords of Norway on your next family trip. Besides travel, Liz enjoys living room dance parties with her kids and husband, reading nonfiction, drinking champagne and homemade cocktails with her amazing friends & neighbors and exploring her ever-changing home of Washington, DC.

Travel has been a passion for Juliet since childhood, when she dreamt of growing up and seeing the world. In high school, she started to plan and book her family's vacations and her interest grew exponentially from there. Juliet lived abroad in Australia and Turkey before moving to New York City, and eventually settled in Washington, DC in 2009. She and her husband love raising their three travel-loving children in the nation's capital. Their "never fail" family travel destination is France, and their favorite "hidden gem" destination with kids is Albania. Besides dreaming of her family's next adventure, Juliet also loves reading, museums, rambling walks around the city, volunteering at local theatre, and a good chai latte.

How we met

While Juliet and Liz were in many of the same social circles for years, their friendship solidified in the Fall of 2021 as they started volunteering together to care for Afghan refugees resettled in the DC area. As the idea of WanderWell Travelers began to take root in Liz & Juliet’s minds, they knew one thing the work had to include: a way to support those displaced from their own homes.

At WanderWell Travelers, we know what a privilege it is to CHOOSE to travel.

That’s why WanderWell Travelers is committed to donating a minimum of 3% of our profits to support organizations working with refugees: men, women and children who have been forced by violence, danger and political upheaval to travel from their homeland and resettle in an unknown place. It’s a longterm commitment for us and one that will always be a part of our business.
